IoT Data Privacy and Security Issues in Terms of Management, Organizational, Technological and Environmental (MOTE) Factors

The rapid evolution of technology across various sectors, including individual, government-mental, and non-governmental IoT solutions, has resulted in substantial shifts in data privacy and regulatory requirements. These changes in regulations, policies, and procedures regarding data privacy have adversely affected security concerns, encompassing regulatory compliance, privacy protection, and security measures within In-house IoT software development companies. This study delves into IoT privacy concerns from the perspectives of in-house IoT software developers, identifying key challenges and their implications. By examining and analysis four factors including management, organizational, technological, and environmental factors (MOTE). we found the management concerns constituting the most prevalent 54%. The research investigates the association between MOTE factors and security concerns and highlights the constant changes in privacy and their implications for information security. Additionally, clarifying the sub-factors for each classification and mentioning the most main issue based on the sub-factor and the security impact affecting the organization. The primary results for the classification of IoT privacy issues were as follows: 54% were related to management, 8% to organizational factors, 14% to environmental concerns, & 24% to technological aspects, MOTE Factors. Besides, we illustrate the correlation between MOTE factors and security impacts to avoid key conflicts at in-house IoT software development companies. This research provides insights for researchers, policymakers, and in-house IoT software developers. This study fosters a more secure and privacy-conscious IoT environment.
