Review on Residential Rooftop Solar Status in India

This paper explores the potential for rooftop solar installations in India, elucidates the current state of these installations, and outlines various governmental initiatives aimed at augmenting rooftop solar infrastructure. It examines the impact of conventional schemes such as net metering and feed-in tariffs within the Indian context, as well as the emergence of virtual net metering and peer-to-peer (P2P) energy sharing models in fostering the expansion of rooftop solar (RTS) systems. Additionally, it analyzes the advantages and drawbacks associated with distinct business models, including capital expenditure (CAPEX) and renewable energy service company (RESCO) models. Finally, it discusses short-term and long-term recommendations for the growth of rooftop solar in India.
