Improving Power Quality Using a PV-Based SEPIC Converter with a Unified Power Flow Controller

Harmonic reduction techniques in outdated source current systems are defective and unfair when dealing with varying load conditions. These tasks arise from the occurrence of non-linear loads, leading to issues in harmonic mitigation. To address this, filters are engaged to reduce harmonics and improve power quality. Applying these filters for a dynamic response under variable load conditions can be expensive. Enhanced power system security and increased voltage stability under various load conditions are provided by the new Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC), that features both series and shunt compensating elements. Synchronized Reference Theory (SRF) is working to derive the reference current from the AC source current, making sinusoidal harmonics that respond to load harmonics. This UPFC is proficient in absorbing or injecting reactive power at the PCC. The DC link capacitor's voltage is maintained and raised by the PV system. The Photo Voltaic (PV) array's maximum power can be obtained using the Perturbs & Observe (P&O) MPPT strategy, and then applied to the SEPIC converter to enhance the voltage. D-Q theory, controlled by a hysteresis current controller, produces PWM pulses for the shunt and series compensators. This approach is executed using MATLAB R2021A software.
