Economic Load Dispatch Problem Using Different Metaheuristic Algorithms

Economic Load Dispatch (ELD) is the technique of dividing power volumes to the generators in the mix so that the system load can be delivered efficiently and effectively. It involves the distribution of generation output among multiple power plants while minimizing the overall cost of generation. Optimization is a mathematical strategy to calculate the maxima or minima of any functions in a selected region. Several optimization approaches compete for the optimal answer. One such approach is the use of the Grey Wolf Optimization algorithm (GWO) that based on the Grey Wolf hierarchy and hunting scheme. To assess GWO’s reliability, a comparison was made to a few metaheuristic techniques. The ‘GWO’ is compared to ‘Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO)’, ‘Sine Cosine Algorithm (SCA)’ and ‘Turbulent Flow of Water Optimization (TFWO)’. The objective is to examine and determine which of the aforementioned algorithms is the most effective and can handle complex constraints and nonlinear cost functions in ELD problems, ultimately leading to a more reliable power dispatch solution and most cost-efficient.
