Automated Network Planner Based on Digital Twin for Wavelength Division Multiplexing Network

Telecom networks are designed to transport vast amounts of data and deliver a diverse array of communication services through cutting-edge technologies such as Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) and Optical Transport network(OTN). For effective and widespread deployment of telecom infrastructure, robust network planning is imperative. However, traditional planning methodologies often fall short, resulting in inefficiencies and lost opportunities. This paper presents a network planning tool based on Digital Twin technology for Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) networks, enabling enhanced accuracy, efficiency, and adaptability in optical network management. Using Digital Twin, a virtual representation mirroring the real-world DWDM network has been created which enables continuous data synchronization allowing the tool to simulate and predict network performance under various conditions. By leveraging real-time data, the planning process is streamlined that enhances network reliability, allowing operators to swiftly adapt to evolving demands and technologies. As data consumption continues to escalate, adopting these advanced planning tools will be essential for maintaining competitiveness in the dynamic telecom sector. We present the Automated Network Planning Tool (NPT), developed by the Centre for Development of Telematics (CDOT), which incorporates the Digital Twin Network (DTN) concept. This tool simplifies the intricate tasks of planning and inventory management through closed-loop automation, achieving high accuracy with minimal human intervention thus reducing the operational costs. Furthermore, the NPT seamlessly interacts with the Element Management System (EMS) through REST API, facilitating real-time adjustments to network configurations.
