The IBM Telum II Processor

IBM Telum II is the latest processor designed specifically for IBM Z’s next-generation mainframe. Designed-for-purpose, Telum II is focused on mission-critical enterprise workloads where performance and sustainability are of the utmost importance and the demand for artificial intelligence acceleration is increasing dramatically. Innovations discussed in this article are the new on-die data processing unit for input/output acceleration, the updated cache, enhancements to the on-chip artificial intelligence accelerator, core improvements, and changes to the off-chip input/output interfaces.
