A Single-Input Dual-Output Wireless Power and Information Transfer System Using DDQ Nested Coils for Motor Drives

This study presents a novel wireless power and information transfer (WPIT) system to directly drive the brushless dc (BLDC) motor, addressing the challenges of unsafe power supply and ineffective communication in harsh environments. By utilizing DDQ nested coils and dual-channel circuit topology, the proposed system employs a single inverter to concurrently transmit high-power and low-power through the 1st and 3rd harmonic channels to energize the motor and motor driver. Notably, the control information can be transferred simultaneously through the 3rd harmonic channel without using additional communication devices. Finally, a 192-W experimental prototype is built to energize the secondary-side BLDC motor and provide constant 12 V to the secondary motor driver, all from the primary side. In summary, the proposed WPIT system achieves the information transfer rate of 166 kb/s and the system dc–dc efficiency of 90%. The magnetic field simulation, theoretical analysis, and measured results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed WPIT system.
