Inductive Power Transfer Using Integrated AC–DC Converter With Transmitter-Side-Based Control and Simplified Output Synchronous Rectifier

This article proposes an inductive power transfer (IPT) ac–dc converter for battery charging applications. The system integrates a soft-switching interleaved high power factor boost rectifier with a series–series (SS) half-bridge IPT resonant configuration, featuring transmitter side-based control without high-speed wireless communication for feedback. The integrated system allows high-quality ac input current operation, high efficiency, and low voltage stress on the transmitter side while maintaining reduced complexity and cost. A simple command circuit is developed for a synchronous rectifier output to reduce the conduction losses on the receiver side. This integrated structure eliminates the need for current sensors for the transmitter or receiver side in closed-loop operation. The integrated operation analysis, design procedure, and experimental results are presented with a 450 W prototype, validating the proposed structure.
