Design of Wireless Power Transmitters for Enhanced Transmission Distance and Output Power

This paper proposes a design method for the transmitter in wireless power transfer (WPT) systems that significantly enhances both output power and power transfer distance. The transmitter comprises a source resonator being compensated at the resonant frequency and an amplifier resonator being compensated above the resonant frequency. With the proposed designs, the transmission distance and the output power of typical WPT systems can be significantly improved as compared to the conventional WPT systems without the amplifier resonators and the WPT systems with ferrites. Practical results confirm that the output power of the WPT system using the proposed transmitter increases approximately 20.76 times compared to a conventional transmitter operating at the same charging distance. Moreover, with equal output power, the charging distance of the proposed transmitter can be extended by about 2.75 times compared to the conventional counterpart.
