A PA Model for Fast Linearity and Efficiency Evaluation under Modulated Signal Excitations

This paper presents a behavioral model for predicting the linearity and efficiency of RF power amplifiers (PAs) under modulated signal excitations. The model is constructed using continuous wave (CW) data collected across various input amplitudes and frequencies, capturing both RF and DC characteristics of the PA. The measured data enables the estimation of amplifier performance, including power, linearity, and efficiency, when excited by modulated signals. The proposed approach is validated for a single ended and Doherty PA in simulation, built at different operation frequencies and using different devices; and for a single-ended PA in measurement; using OFDM signals with bandwidths up to 100MHz for both simulations and measurement tests. This method provides a streamlined and effective tool for both design-stage optimization and post-manufacturing system simulations.
