Legal Aspects of the Use of Artificial Intelligence in the Educational Environment of Universities

The article considers the legal aspects of the use of artificial intelligence in the educational process. In the era of total digitalization, the educational process has also started to use modern communication technologies on a regular basis. Artificial intelligence is widely used in universities and greatly facilitates the learning process, while solving many tasks of educators. The main purpose of the study is to highlight the advantages and disadvantages of using artificial intelligence in student learning and to propose measures to prevent legal risks arising from the digitalization of education in universities. The paper uses the methods of desk review of scientific research, analytical reviews, results of surveys of educators, reports and statistical data. It uses the method of comparative analysis and interpretation of law. As a result, the following advantages of using artificial intelligence in the educational process have been identified: automation of educational processes; personalized creation of educational materials; adaptation of educational material to particular students; round-the-clock interaction; interactive content; accessibility; analytics. Among the disadvantages the following are noted: imperfect technologies; violation of personal data security; responsibility and rights of artificial intelligence. Scientific novelty: based on the analysis, the main fields of using artificial intelligence in the educational process have been identified and supplemented: adaptive learning; gamification; robot creation; nano-learning; generation of educational material; online MOOC platforms with educational content; tutoring; introduction of information and consulting systems; automatic assessment of knowledge; customization of educational materials for individual characteristics; application of pre-trained artificial intelligence systems. The paper defines the tasks facing educators, which can be solved with the use of artificial intelligence. Practical significance: the analysis of legal risks that arise while using artificial intelligence in the process of teaching students can minimize these disadvantages and regulate at the legislative level the legal characteristics of the use of artificial intelligence at any stage of the educational process in higher education institutions.
