Design Thinking for Innovative Solutions for Math Education

Design thinking is an iterative process and a powerful methodology that fosters innovation through human-centered approaches. This paper discusses the sequential procedure for developing a design thinking solution that was adopted. Understanding the stakeholders and empathizing with the user and their expectations is the key to forming a robust solution. Surveys were conducted, professionals in the field were interviewed and data obtained on this was analysed. Further, a Point Of View (POV) statement was formulated as a basis for our understanding of user perception. A mind map was designed to brainstorm ideas on developing a solution. A wow-how-now matrix has been used to represent the ideas in terms of the degree of innovation and difficulty of implementation. Then the ideas were ranked by polls. Based on the idea ranked highest, a web application and an AR/VR platform that helps students understand statistics and probability better was created. In order to improve the prototype, various techniques were used for testing like concept validation and split test. The reviews were taken from the end users on the working of our prototype and the feedback given was considered to improve the prototype.
