Multi-Area Economic/Emission Dispatch with Arctic Puffin Optimization

Multi-area economic emission dispatch (MAEED) deals with the determination of the optimum generation schedule of each power generating unit and power transfer between connected areas at minimum cost and minimum emission both while satisfying all associated operational constraints. In this paper first formulation of the complex MAEED problem has been carried out, and then it is implemented to solve using Artic Puffin Optimization (APO). APO is inspired by ecological processes i.e. survival and predation behaviour of the arctic puffin. The efficacy of APO has been investigated on two standard test cases of four area MAEED problems. They are 16 and 40 power-generating unit systems. The obtained results by simulation show that APO is very promising for solving complex highly constrained optimization problems.
