ANSYS-Based Finite Element Approach to Enhance PM-BLDC Motor Efficiency For EV Support

This paper presents an exhaustive study on the performance enhancement of a Permanent Magnet Brushless DC (PM-BLDC) motor toward electric vehicle applications using both mathematical modelling and finite element method (FEM) analysis. Such an investigation of critical design parameters includes stator and rotor configuration, torque-speed characteristics, and magnetic flux distributions using a combination of analytical methods along with FEM simulations. All modelling is done in MATLAB, while FEM analysis is run in ANSOFT MAXWELL within the ANSYS environment to achieve high accuracy and precision. The proposed design methodology is validated by comparing results from analytical and FEM approaches. A 550-watt PM-BLDC motor with a rated speed of 1500 rpm is designed, and its efficiency, torque, and cogging torque are analysed. The findings demonstrate the motor's potential for optimised performance in EV systems. The detailed analysis points out that the techniques used in this work on the ANSYS-based FEM improve the efficiency of PM-BLDC motors. The development of reliable and sustainable EV technologies can be enhanced through the techniques adopted in this work.
