Design of 2-bit Broadband Reconfigurable Intelligent Metasurface with Wide-Angle Scanning Ability

This paper presents a broadband, wide-angle scanning 2-bit reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS). Initially, a broadband two-bit magneto-electric dipole unit is designed, which can provide four types of phase compensation by dynamically controlling the ON/OFF states of three PIN diodes. Based on this broadband surface unit, a $1|6 \times1|6$ reconfigurable intelligent surface is designed and simulated. The simulation results indicate that the metasurface antenna achieves a peak gain of 23.1| dBi at a frequency of1|0 GHz and can perform a twodimensional beam scan of ± 60°. Additionally, the 3 dB gain bandwidth of this metasurface antenna ranges from 8.2 GHz to1|1|.4 GHz, resulting in a relative bandwidth of $\mathbf{3 2. 6 5 \%}$.
