Impact Study of Commutation and Diode Open Circuits on the Excitation Capacity of WRSGs Based on a System-Level Semiphysical Crosslinking Test

Wound-rotor synchronous generators (WRSGs) are the main structures used in aircraft power systems. As a key component of WRSGs for realizing brushless commutation, rotary rectifiers (RRs) directly affect the excitation capacity of WRSGs. The traditional performance analysis of RR does not fully consider the commutation phenomenon, which leads to a large difference from the actual situation. This article analyzes the compound impact effect of the commutation of an RR and a diode open-circuit fault (OCF) on the excitation capacity of the main generator (MG). In this article, a system-level semiphysical crosslinking test platform for an aircraft WRSG is constructed to solve the problem whereby key rotor-side data cannot be obtained. Through the key data, this article finds that the commutation phenomenon reduces the output voltage of the RR to 59.14% of the ideal commutation. In addition, the open-loop experiment shows that the excitation capacity decreases to 85.81%, 60.87%, 54.52%, and 75.71% because of the single-diode OCF, two-diode OCF with the same bridge arm, two-diode OCF at the same end, and two-diode OCF at different ends of different bridge arms, respectively. The results of the closed-loop experiment are consistent with those of the open-loop experiment. In this article, the conclusion of the compound impact and the construction process of the system-level semiphysical crosslinking test platform is highly important for the process of multielectrification of aircraft.
