Arduino-Based Wearable Gloves for Enhanced Monitoring of Hand Rehabilitation Progress in Physically Impaired Patients

For patients with hand injuries, monitoring their rehabilitation progress may frequently be an arduous, painful, and often intrusive procedure. In order to evaluate rehabilitation progress, physical therapists typically use instruments like dynamometers and goniometers. Additionally, they measure strength and range of motion manually. However, these approaches can sometimes be imprecise and cause discomfort to the patient. To offer a less invasive solution, researchers propose an IoT-based wearable device that tracks recovery. Using an Arduino Nano ESP32 microcontroller, this device monitors hand movements, capturing data such as finger range of motion and muscle movements related to the patient’s ability to use their hand. This data is sent to a mobile app for viewing by both the therapist and their patients. The proposed method aims to improve accuracy for rehabilitation progress tracking while also reducing possible discomfort and pain during the tracking process. This device seeks to help make rehabilitation easier for the patient and provide more effective progress tracking for the therapist.
