Integration of LIDAR and Ultrasonic sensor for MAV collision avoidance

Ultrasonic distance estimation sensor and Lidar micro sensor have been employed in the proposed obstacle detection and collision avoidance method for the computation of the distance between the Micro Aerial Vehicle and the obstacle. This study compares the distance estimating capabilities of ultrasonic sensors and LIDAR for MAV collision avoidance. When calculating RMSE and MAE for error estimates in distance measurement using an ultrasonic sensor, the results were 3.46 and 1.22, respectively. When calculating RMSE and MAE for error estimates in distance measurement using a LIDAR sensor, the corresponding results were 6.35 and 4.91.
