Enhancing Cybersecurity Awareness Among Users and Employees: A Practical Approach

This research explores how susceptible employees in a particular organization are to phishing attacks. This was done by sending out fake emails designed to look like phishing attempts. Out of over 12,000 emails sent, roughly a quarter of people clicked on the links within them, and 12% even gave away personal information. Interestingly, those working in technical roles like IT were actually more likely to fall for these tricks than people in non-technical roles. Employees as a whole were even more likely to click links and give away information than other users. This study highlights the importance of ongoing, tailored cybersecurity training for everyone in an organization, especially those in technical roles. The study was conducted ethically, ensuring everyone’s privacy. Based on the findings, the researchers provided suggestions for improving cybersecurity and ideas for future research.
