Classroom Attendance System using Bluetooth Low Energy

Identify the indoor positioning of each person is difficult than outdoor positioning due to many interferences. A classroom attendance system is also required an indoor positioning technique to identify whether the student is in or out of the classroom at that time. Most of the researches in the classroom attendance system used various techniques to verify student attendance, for example, barcode, QR code, Iris, RFID, face detection, and recognition. Recent research in the class attendance system was focused on a face recognition technique to identify a person. In contrast, this technique requires high computation power or a high-resolution image, and the light has a strong impact on the accuracy. It is undeniable that a mobile phone is a need in any human life. The mobile phone sold in the market has built-in Bluetooth, even at a cheap price mobile phone. Therefore, this work applied Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) on the mobile phones to the class attendance system. The proposed system does not require any special hardware, and it is convenient to use for everybody. Our experiments showed that the proposed classroom attendance system using BLE was able to accurately verify student attendance, even though the experiment room has a fairly deep shape. It can be concluded that our proposed work is convenient for both teachers and students and saves time when verifying student attendance in a classroom.
