Integration of Fuel Cell System with Doubly Fed Induction Generator for Distributed Power Generation with Improved Power Quality

This paper investigates the integration of Fuel Cell System (FCS) with Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) to enhance distributed power generation. The paper begins by providing a comprehensive overview of fuel cell technology, emphasizing its advantages, limitations, and operational characteristics. The DC-DC converter steps up the voltage from the FCS to match the DC link voltage of the DFIG, enabling seamless interconnection. MPPT controller algorithm ensure that both the FCS and DFIG operate at their maximum power points, extracting optimal power from their respective fuel sources (hydrogen for FCS and wind for DFIG). Subsequently, modelling of FCS with DFIG and connection of grid, along with a non-linear load, through VSC using Kernel Control is presented in MATLAB-Simulink and verified in Real Time using OPAL-RT. Finally, the study shows optimized design and operation of integrating FCS and DFIG to improve the power quality, for a more flexible and sustainable energy infrastructure.
