Novel Converter Topology for Bipolar DC Programmable Power Supply Application

Bipolar programmable DC-DC converters are capable of generating a user-defined voltage waveform of either polarity across the output terminals. These versatile power supplies are used in power electronics testing, and industrial processes requiring a precise and variable bipolar voltage. This paper presents a novel isolated DC-DC converter developed based on the full-bridge topology for bipolar programmable power supply application. The proposed converter is designed for a rated power of 625 W and can provide a variable output voltage ranging from + 100V to -100V, allowing precise control within a 1 kHz frequency range. The isolation feature is implemented to ensure safety and reliability, which is critical for applications involving the testing of sensitive electronic equipment. The performance of the proposed converter is validated for bipolar as well as unipolar modes through simulation studies using MATLAB software. The simulation results confirm the proposed converter's capability to deliver stable and precise bipolar as well as unipolar power, indicating its suitability for use in advanced programmable power supply systems.
