Simplified Average Model of Voltage Source Inverter for Controller Design

The paper introduces a simplified average model of Voltage Source Inverters (VSI), suitable for practical analysis in circuit simulators. By circumventing the mathematical complexities of traditional small signal analysis, this model enables rapid frequency sweep analysis, streamlining stability assessment and controller design. A detailed derivation of a current controller using the proposed average model is presented, with simulations demonstrating robust performance under various disturbances. Experimental validation on a real hardware setup further corroborates the effectiveness of the proposed approach. The results underscore the practical viability of the derived controller in tracking reference current amidst changes in circuit parameters, thus contributing to the advancement of current control methods for single-phase inverters.
