Interoperability Analysis of Charging Coils for Wireless Charging of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

This study explores the optimization of wireless charging systems for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) through an analysis of planar coil geometries' interoperability. By examining Bipolar (BP) coils as transmitters and circular, double D (DD), and BP coils as receivers, the research aims to determine optimal coil pairings. Since multi-coil geometries such as BP and DD coil can be excited in various ways, interoperability analysis was performed between transmitter and receiver coil for all possible excitation mode. Results highlight the superiority of BP coils as transmitters, particularly in their compatibility with circular and DD receivers across various excitation modes. Single coil excitation emerges as promising, demonstrating favorable coupling and misalignment tolerance with circular receivers. This research underscores the importance of interoperability analysis in enhancing wireless charging efficiency for UAVs. Future endeavors will focus on further refining coil designs and developing comprehensive chargers with enhanced misalignment tolerance, thereby advancing drone technology capabilities.
