Web Server Performance Evaluation: Comparing Nginx and Apache Using K6 Testing Methods for Load, Spike, Soak, and Performance

The performance of a web server is a critical factor in determining the speed, efficiency, and stability of a website, all of which contribute to the overall user experience. With the growing demand for fast and responsive web applications, it is essential to understand how these two web servers perform under various testing conditions. Therefore, this study is conducted to evaluate and compare the performance of Nginx and Apache using the K6 testing tool. This study aims to analyze and compare the performance of two widely used web servers, Nginx and Apache, by utilizing the K6 testing tool. The research includes a series of tests, including load, spike, soak, and performance testing, to evaluate the resilience, efficiency, and scalability of both servers under various conditions. Through a comprehensive set of experiments, we seek to identify the strengths and weaknesses of each server in handling different traffic types and levels of stress. Result of the research Nginx exhibited superior performance, characterized by faster request processing times and fewer blocked requests. The findings of this study provide valuable insights for web developers and system administrators in selecting the most suitable web server for their specific needs, contributing to the optimization of web infrastructure and enhancing the overall user experience.
