Performance Analysis and Effects of Dust & Temperature on Solar PV Module System by Using Multivariate Linear Regression Model

Solar energy has enormous potential to serve the present energy demand of the world. Photovoltaic is an elegant process of converting the sun's energy into electricity, and photovoltaic cells become matchless in transforming the sunshine into electrical energy. In this work, an effort had been made to estimate the effects of dust addition and ambient temperature on conversion efficiency of 62 KWp Rooftop SPV module by the use of Capacity Utilization Factor and Performance Ratio parameters.

The operating and electrical performance parameters of SPV array were experimentally collected over an approximately six‐month period permitting for usual dust addition. The data were used for the calculation of the CUF, PR, and power conversion efficiency of the SPV systems. A multivariate linear regressions (MLR) model is established to estimate the system's output performance with the consideration of conversion efficiency as the dependent variable and ambient temperature and dust exposure day as the independent variables. Also, the losses due to dust accumulation are estimated. The model can predict conversion efficiency closely, with R2 values close to 91%. During the days of study, the average efficiency reductions due to dust are 0.872%/day, energy losses are 9.935 kWh/m² with an average loss due to dust accumulation of Rs.192.72/day using the MLR model.
