Spatial Computing 101

Summary

Modern spatial computing encompasses a broad range of technologies, including augmented reality, virtual reality, and mixed reality, which collectively enable computers to perceive, interact with, and navigate three‐dimensional spaces. If we consider the structure of a house as an analogy for the spatial computing tech stack, the hardware would be the foundation. The spatial computing era will also have its own connectivity requirements, which will be critical in helping this wave prove its value. The new hardware categories in this next dimension of computing will need more robust and sophisticated networking and data requirements to power immersive technologies and autonomous systems that will usher in our future. Beyond cameras and depth sensors, spatial computing also makes use of motion sensors, which help computers know that they are moving, which way they are facing, and what's around them.
