AI Coding Tools

Summary

This chapter looks at three of the most popular GenAI coding tools—GitHub Copilot, Tabnine, and Replit— to gain hands‐on experience setting up and using the basic features of each. GitHub Copilot is a cloud‐based AI coding tool developed by GitHub and OpenAI. The GenAI model behind Copilot is named OpenAI Codex. Tabnine is an AI coding assistant and the name of the company that created it. Tabnine is available in three versions: starter, pro, and enterprise. Tabnine is available as a plug‐in, or extension, for many of the most popular code editors, including VS Code, Eclipse, Android Studio, WebStorm, and Sublime. Replit is a browser‐based integrated developer environment with AI assistance features, collaboration features, and a large and active community of developers. It has support for every popular programming language and framework.
