Summary

An artificial intelligence (AI) platform is a cohesive, well‐integrated software solution running on scalable hardware that accelerates the full lifecycle of AI projects and applications across an enterprise. AI platforms lighten the workload, encourage cooperation, and speed up adoption. AI applications are built and run on AI platforms; they consist of the software that solves specific problems or answers particular questions. A flexible AI platform enables the building of multiple applications within the same technical framework. This flexibility allows future products and applications to be developed and deployed more quickly and cost‐effectively than if they were built as standalone applications. The major functional components of AI platform architecture should align with the AI lifecycle. These components can be broken up into these four high‐level areas: data minder, model maker, inference activator, and performance manager. A platform should allow for business‐specific language for feature selection and transformation.
