Design and Optimization of a MoS2-Graphene Hybrid Structured SPR Biosensor for the Detection of Blood Hemoglobin

In this work, a highly sensitive and optimized surface plasmon resonance (SPR) biosensor has been presented for the detection and quantification of hemoglobin levels in blood samples. Graphene is used as a guiding layer to enhance the performance of the proposed sensor. The thickness of different materials has been optimized to ensure enhanced sensing performance of the developed biosensor. Detection of hemoglobin is shown explicitly by using a finite element method based numerical solution. In blood samples, a change of 0.001 refractive index causes a 0.61025 g/dl increment in hemoglobin level. This change in hemoglobin level has been detected with a sensitivity of 210 deg/RIU with this sensor. The novelty of this research is that it can detect hemoglobin more accurately than the earlier reported works using graphene coated SPR sensor and whisper gallery mode-based ring resonator.
