Quantum and Edge Computing

Summary

This chapter discusses two techniques: quantum computing and edge computing. Quantum computing uses quantum mechanics to solve complex problems faster than conventional computers can. Edge computing brings computer processing to the edge of the network. Quantum computing uses properties from quantum mechanics and is based on how matter behaves at a subatomic level. The five main components of a quantum computer architecture broadly fall into two layers, namely the classical and quantum computing layers. Internet of Things (IoT) describes any physical object that can collect and store data and communicate with other devices via the internet. Edge computing enables IoT devices to be more usable by providing easy access to processing and storing data faster. Therefore, the two technologies complement each other and cannot exist separately. The chapter presents a comparison of cloud computing to edge computing and discusses the use cases of edge computing.
