Automatic speed limiter of a VFD driven three-phase induction machine in electric vehicles

The work in this paper focuses on the design of an autonomous cruise control system that, when activated, automatically adjusts the vehicle's speed. This is made possible by including a Global Positioning System (GPS) that can ascertain the exact position of the car and the speed limit of the road. The system will then use that information to automatically set the vehicle's speed, so it complies with the speed restriction. On lengthy journeys, where speed restrictions might vary often, this function is invaluable for drivers who tend to ignore or miss such signs. The improved cruise control system is one way the system aims to make driving easier and safer for drivers. The designed system uses a database of road speed limitations and a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) in conjunction with the GPS to automatically control the speed. The controller is achieved via Arduino and can change the speed of the vehicle in real time. The developed system offers a significant technology for traffic management that may mitigate speed infractions, hence reducing automobile accidents and their related consequences, as demonstrated in this research both theoretically and practically.
