Occlusion-Handling Query Propagation for MOTRs in Multi-Object Tracking

The MOTR series of trackers, which combine query propagation with identity association of multiple objects, is the state of the art in query-propagation-based multi-object tracking. One issue with these trackers is that they treat temporary occlusion of objects as outright disappearance. As such, when the objects re-appear, they will be regarded as new objects. To address this issue, we propose a query propagation and update strategy in this paper, named occlusion-handling strategy (OHS). The proposed strategy is training-free. As shown in the experiments reported in this paper, it enhances three metrics, namely HOTA, AssA and IDFl, compared with the original MOTR trackers.
