3D Calderon-Based Electrical Impedance Tomography for Damage Detection in Plates

Electrical impedance tomography (EIT), a technology with wide-ranging applications in both medical and industrial fields, is garnering attention from scholars for its potential in material damage detection and health monitoring. Traditional EIT mainly focuses on solving linearized problems or iteratively solving optimization problems. For objects with complex conductivity distributions or dense meshes, the computational cost can be high. In contrast, the Calderon's method, as a direct approach, allows for rapid 3D absolute imaging that is independent of the forward problem. The feasibility of implementing the 3D Calderon's method with surface-mounted electrode configuration is investigated, and the impact of three key parameters in the reconstruction algorithm is discussed in this paper. Simulation results show that the average localization error of the method is 0.0419 and demonstrate that using the 3D Calderon's method for absolute imaging is feasible and efficient, even with electrode placement limited to a few surfaces.
