Dolby Surround Sound Applications in DRM Digital Radio Broadcasting

The technical feasibility of using Dolby Stereo/Dolby Surround sound technologies to improve music programs perception in the Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) digital radio broadcasting system in the low (LF), medium (MF) and high (HF) frequency ranges is considered. The technical feasibility of this proposal is shown in the “stereo” and “parametric stereo” modes when broadcasting in the 9/10 kHz frequency bandwidth in the transmission mode “A” with 64QAM modulation and protection levels “1”, “2” and “3” (in the LF and MF ranges), and in the transmission mode “B” with 64QAM modulation and protection levels “2” or “3” - in stable HF range channels with 10 kHz frequency bandwidth.
