Fundamental Researches on Advanced Sensing Technologies Using Laser Reflection in the Deep-Sea and on the Deep-Seabed

In order to establish the basis of new exploration method for seabed resource areas, we are currently focusing on the characteristics of laser reflection in the deep-sea and on the deep-seabed. And we are now working on fundamental researches on three different advanced sensing technologies using laser reflection from seabed and seawater, and aiming to establish the basis of elemental technologies that will contribute to seabed resource exploration. Now, to obtain the basic data required for these technologies and to verify the feasibility and practicality of them, three types of demonstrators for deep-sea use have been developing. They will be mounted on an actual underwater vehicle and used for evaluation tests in deep-sea areas. Evaluation tests for them have been conducted in a water-tank, shallow-water areas and deep-sea areas, and their basic performance desired as almost designed performance has been confirmed.
