Ultrasound is used widely in procedures such as prenatal imaging, where it helps to visualize the developing fetus, and in the diagnosis and monitoring of various diseases of organs such as the heart, liver and kidneys. Therapeutically, ultrasound is used in treatments such as lithotripsy, where high-frequency sound waves are used to break up kidney stones, and in physical therapy to promote tissue healing [1].
