Magnetic Properties of Iron-Based Dust Cores With Various Binder Contents

This article reports the magnetic properties of iron dust cores with various binder contents. The saturation magnetic flux density and permeability of iron dust cores monotonically became lower as the binder content increased. On the other hand, the core loss was dependent on the binder content and was minimized at a binder content of 0.3 wt.%. Also, the results of the loss separation based on the frequency dependence of the core loss indicated that the dynamic loss increased for the binder content below 0.3 wt.%, whereas that the hysteresis loss increased for the binder content above 0.3 wt.%. Therefore, these results suggest that it is necessary to determine the appropriate binder content of the iron dust core for the target frequency of the power electronics devices.
