Comprehensive Performance Evaluation Method for Flywheel Array Energy Storage System

Flywheel energy storage, characterized by high power and fast response, is an effective means to meet the short-term and high-frequency regulation needs of power systems. Accurate assessment of flywheel performance is of great significance in ensuring stable operation of power systems and promoting technological progress. However, limited by the development of technology, capacity and other parameters of flywheel are insufficient, usually unable to meet the regulatory requirements, so it is necessary to use multiple flywheels to form Flywheel Array Energy Storage System (FAESS). FAESS needs to coordinate the action of each flywheel unit, build the array topology, design communication and control systems, so that its output characteristics differ from the individual flywheel. Therefore, research on the performance evaluation method of flywheel arrays is needed. In this paper, we introduce the current research status of flywheel energy storage evaluation indicator system, then analyze the current topology structure of flywheel array and its communication system. Finally, we propose a flywheel array evaluation indicator system that considers the influence of array aggregation topology, providing reference for the performance evaluation and optimization design of FAESS.
