Drone Delivery Route Optimization with Pathfinding using Swarm Intelligence (SI)

Drone delivery systems are transforming logistics, promising swift and efficient transportation of goods. However, optimizing drone routes presents significant challenges, particularly in dynamic environments with varying obstacles and delivery points. This project explores the application of swarm intelligence techniques, specifically Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), to enhance drone delivery route efficiency. Swarm intelligence, inspired by natural behaviors of social insects and other animal groups, leverages decentralized and self-organized methodologies to solve complex problems. By studying the principles and mechanisms of ACO and PSO, this research aims to develop robust algorithms for drone pathfinding. ACO, mimicking the foraging behavior of ants, and PSO, inspired by the social dynamics of bird flocks and fish schools, offer unique advantages in navigating and adapting to environmental changes. The project involves setting up a simulation environment to test these algorithms, evaluating their performance based on metrics such as delivery time, route length, and computational efficiency. Preliminary results indicate that integrating swarm intelligence into drone delivery systems can significantly improve route optimization, making the delivery process more efficient and resilient. This research not only contributes to the field of logistics and transportation but also demonstrates the potential of bio-inspired algorithms in solving real-world engineering problems. Future work will focus on refining these algorithms and expanding their applications to more complex and large-scale delivery scenarios.
