A Compact Power Divider Using a Defected Microstrip Structure

Defected microstrip structures (DMS) increase the effective electrical length of a microstrip line. This study leverages the DMS technique to achieve a compact design by reducing the physical length of the quarter-wavelength lines in a conventional Wilkinson power divider (WPD). The proposed DMS achieves a 50% reduction in the physical length compared to conventional quarter-wavelength lines. Hence, the compact power divider achieves a 36% overall size reduction compared to the conventional WPD and has an operational fractional bandwidth of 79%.
