Portfolio Assessment Method: A New Model of Multiple Intelligences Theory in the Evaluation of Undergraduate Teaching Effectiveness

The article introduces the Portfolio Assessment Method, a novel educational evaluation model grounded in Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences Theory (MIT), which posits that intelligence is multifaceted rather than a singular entity. This approach aims to address the limitations of traditional evaluation systems that predominantly rely on written tests, often neglecting diverse intelligences. The Portfolio Assessment Method offers a comprehensive and objective evaluation of students' development across various intelligence domains by analyzing a range of performances and outcomes throughout the learning process. The method has been applied in Western educational practices and is now being explored for undergraduate teaching effectiveness in China. A case study of the medical insurance course at a university in G Province illustrates the practical application of the Portfolio Assessment Method, emphasizing its advantages in promoting holistic student development, enhancing personalized and authentic evaluation, and supporting educational reform. The paper concludes that the Portfolio Assessment Method is a significant tool for educational evaluation within the framework of the MIT, facilitating the comprehensive development of students and the innovation of teaching practices.
