The Influence of Participatory Video in Enhancing Arabic Speaking Skills: A Case Study of Students in the United Arab Emirates

This study aimed to investigate the influence of teaching one of the Arabic language subjects by using Participatory Video (PV) in enhancing Arabic Speaking Skills level among eighth grade students in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. The sample consisted of (148) male and female students who were chosen by using convenience sampling method from two private schools in Abu Dhabi, who were distributed randomly into two experimental and control groups. A Speaking Test (ST) to measure the performance on the Arabic speaking skills (the independent variable), was developed and reliability and validity properties of the ST were verified and applied in pre-post tests. Two methods of teaching: Participatory Video/ Regular (The Dependent Variable) were applied respectively, to the two experimental and control groups. Results showed a significant statistical impact at the level (α =0.05) in the Speaking Test (ST) in favor of the experimental group. Findings also showed a statistical significant impact at the level (α = 0.05) in the (ST) of speaking Arabic skills that was ascribed to gender, in favor of females.
