Generator Redispatch Strategy for Transmission Line Connection Guarded by Synchro-check Devices

The process of transmission line connection in power systems typically considers constraints of maximum difference in voltage magnitude, angle and frequency between the terminals of its switches, which are programed into a synchro-check device to avoid damage and malfunction of equipment due to the subsequent transients. This paper presents a simple methodology to minimally redispatch the generators in order to drive the voltages at switch terminals into a range of acceptable values for line connection. The algorithm was implemented in PSS/e Python and tested in the IEEE 39 buses test system. It is expected to be incorporated soon as part of the operational procedures of the Costa Rican transmission utility.
