Comparison of Vegetation Index Using Aerial Imagery Data for Oil Palm Tree Health Assessment

Oil palm plantations are vital in producing palm oil, necessitating effective monitoring for understanding plant growth and health. Remote sensing methods, particularly Vegetation Indices (VI) analysis, are crucial for extensive land monitoring. This study critically assesses and compares commonly used VI methods, including NDVI, EVI, and SAVI, in oil palm plantation monitoring. By reviewing relevant literature and employing drone imagery data, NDVI, EVI, and SAVI indices were calculated and compared for a plantation block in North Sumatra. Results indicate that while all methods show normal plant conditions, there are variations in value ranges and visualization outcomes. This research found that the NDVI provides accurate results and demonstrates consistent accuracy, making it a preferred method for oil palm monitoring followed by EVI and SA VI.
