Resilience to Flux Walking in Isolated Converters: A Comparative Study of Voltage Doubler and Diode Bridge

The effectiveness of a current-fed full-bridge boost converter, a voltage doubler (VD), and a diode bridge (DB) secondary circuit configuration are contrasted in this research. It assesses the consequences of flux walking and switching asymmetry. Uneven magnetisation of the transformer core, or switching asymmetry, causes flux walking and, in turn, can reduce converter performance. This is a typical problem in power electronics. This study shows that switching asymmetry has a major impact on converter efficiency, especially when the DB configuration is used, which is vulnerable to imbalanced magnetic flux and causes notable decreases in efficiency. Alternatively, when it comes to switching asymmetry, the VD arrangement is more resilient. Maintaining more stable converter performance in asymmetric switching conditions is helped by its inherent structure, which helps combat the impacts of flux walking. To increase efficiency and reliability, especially under less-than-ideal operating conditions, the results show that choosing the right secondary configuration is crucial in current-fed isolated converters.
