Content Prefetching Method for Scalable Video Streaming in IPFS

In this paper, we propose a prefetching method for Interplanetary File System (IPFS) video streaming with scalable video coding. In the proposed method, the IPFS/HTTP gateway prefetches video segments that it predicts the client will play next from other gateways. This reduces the download time of video segments for the client, and improves the quality of the video segments. We evaluate the playback quality on a Docker network and show that the proposed method improves the average playback bitrate of the video. We also show that the proposed prefetching algorithm does not generate unnecessary traffic for the inter-gateway network, and that the video segments requested by the client are correctly prefetched by the gateway.
