Performance Evaluation of Next Generation DTTB Using Asynchronous Time-Domain LDM

For the achievement of 4K and 8K terrestrial Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) broadcasting, research in the physical layer is being conducted all over the world to realize technology that achieves high transmission efficiency. Currently, the frequency band allocated to terrestrial broad-casting is strained, and there are no extra bandwidth avail-able to introduce next-generation Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting (DTTB, same meaning as Advanced ISDB- T). In Japan, Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting-Terrestrial (ISDB-T) is used for terrestrial broadcasting. To introduce the next-generation DTTB while broadcasting ISDB-T, the Layered Division Multiplexing (LDM) method has been proposed. LDM enables ISDB-T and Advanced ISDB-T to communicate in the same frequency band in Time-Domain or Frequency-Domain. In this study, we propose using Asynchronous Time-Domain LDM with a larger number of FFT size, which the size is only acces-sible in the Time-Domain. The result shows that communication accuracy against noise was improved over Frequency-Domain LDM (FLDM) or previous study of Time-Domain (TLDM). This enables next-generation DTTB using TLDM instead of FLDM to transmit signals with different FFT clocks and higher bit rates for 4K and 8K TV services. The results are simulated in the Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) channel.
