Power Consumption Analysis in LCD and AMOLED Display Technologies for Mobile Devices

When analyzing the battery consumption of mobile devices, one of the primary components considered is the display, which presents distinct consumption characteristics depending on the screen technology used. Furthermore, developing energy-efficient display technologies is critical, as they are a substantial source of smartphone battery consumption. In this study, we consider a comparative analysis between smartphones with two display technologies, Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) and Dynamic Active Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode (AMOLED), employed in modern mobile devices. The results showed a considerable energy saving for the Dynamic AMOLED compared to PLS TFT LCD technology, with reductions of up to 72.49%.
