Prototyping of an MPEG-DASH Player for Verifying and Presenting Content Provenance Information

Recently, with the development of generative AI technology, the spread of disinformation and misinformation on the web has become an issue, making it challenging for content viewers to judge the credibility of information. We focus on using “provenance information,” which indicates the source and production process of content, as one of the criteria for viewers to determine whether they can trust content. We developed a prototype system that attaches provenance information to video content for streaming distribution, and an MPEG-DASH video player that verifies the attached provenance information and presents the results to viewers on smart TV. Our system and player comply with the specifications set by C2PA, an international standard organization.
